Vizag will host 2 Deccan Chargers games
Hyderabad Deccan Chargers will play 2 of its 7 home cricket matchess in Visakhapatnam in IPL 2009. Indian Premier League authorities are planning to extend Twenty20 cricket matches to new avenues to increase awareness about IPL and also to escape from the effects of the economic slowdown. Cities like Ahmedabad, Cuttack, Baroda, Visakhapatnam, Kochi, Kanpur, Nagpur and Gauhati have mad cricket lovers. They missed IPL action in 2008.
According to IPL rules, each franchise can select 2 grounds to conduct some their home games in order to spread the popularity of T20 cricket beyond their city. This will help to attract more audience to the Twenty20 cricket games. These 2 games will surely attract packed houses as most of the cricket fans from Vizag have never watched “big T20 matches”.
My suggestion:
Mumbai should play some matches in Nagpur while Bangalore should allot 2 matches to Kochi. It is good for IPL if Delhi plays 2 games in Kanpur while Jaipur can play in Baroda and Ahmedabad.
According to Bengal Cricket Association sources, no match in 2009 will be played in Dhaka. In 2009, all home games of Kolkata Knight Riders will be held in Eden Gardens only. But Rajasthan Royals may play some matches in Ahmedabad, a cricket mad city. Chennai may play some matches in Colombo to cash on the popularity of Muralidharan.

Along with Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Mitchell Johnson, some other Australian players will also skip this IPL 2009 due to busy International schedule. Kings XI Punjab: The Mohali team was bought by Bollywood diva Preity Zinta, her industrialist beau Ness Wadia, along with renowned industrialists Karan Paul and Mohit Burman for $76 million for a period of 10 years. ‘Icon player’ Yuvraj Singh is the captain of Kings XI Punjab. Australia’s Tom Moddy is the coach of the team.

Mumbai The opening match and final of the second edition of IPL, shifted overseas to South Africa, are to be held at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town and the Wanderers in Johannesburg respectively on April 18 and May 24.
The semi finals are to be held on May 22 and 23 in Pretoria and Johannesburg respectively, as per the full schedule of the Twenty20 League released by the IPL’s governing body.
In a double header on the first day, last year's winners Rajasthan Royals would take on Royal Challengers, Bangalore, while Mumbai Indians would clash with first edition's runners-up Chennai Super Kings at Cape Town.
In all, the 59 matches will be held in eight cities: Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, East London, Kimberly, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth.
Kingsmead in Durban, which has a large number of South Asians, has been allotted the lion's share of 16 matches while the Centurion Park in Pretoria would host 12 ties.

The second season of the Indian Premier League will go ahead in South Africa after the lukewarm interest shown by the England & Wales Cricket Board in staging the tournament was rejected by organizers.
Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, said that the decision had been motivated by the enthusiasm of the South African public for Twenty20 cricket, as well as the success of the World Twenty20 there in 2007.
Following Modi’s verdict there are bound to be questions asked over whether the ECB should have been more proactive in trying to attract the high-profile competition, which has been moved out of India on security grounds.
On Sunday morning, Modi had suggested that England were the front-running candidates as stand-in hosts. But both the chairman and the chief executive of the ECB, Giles Clarke and David Collier were out of the country at that point.
By the time they returned home, Cricket South Africa chief executive Gerald Majola was already on the point of concluding the deal with Modi.
“We would like to thank Cricket South Africa very much for the support they have given us over the past few days, which has helped us to come to this decision," said Modi in a statement.
"The South African public loves T2O cricket and CSA successfully hosted the inaugural ICC World T20.
"Both these factors weighed heavily in South Africa's favour, and we look forward to a successful and exciting tournament being held at venues throughout South Africa."
While the full programme of 59 matches will be retained, the competition’s start date will move back from April 10 to April 18. The venues will include Johannesburg, Durban, Centurion, Port Elizabeth, East London and Cape Town.
Earlier on Tuesday, Clarke told reporters that the ECB had drawn up a possible schedule – based around the fact that, as he put it, “in any given week there are usually eight county grounds in action and 10 free”.
But Clarke also stressed that the ECB had not gone out of their way to attract the IPL. "The most important thing was not where the tournament is staged, but that is should be a success," he said. "If they want to stage it in South Africa, it’s their tournament. I do not regard this as a competitive situation.
“It would be fantastic to hold it here. The ethnic communities would respond extremely strongly to it, and there’s no doubt that a lot of people would come and watch. But we’re not banging down anyone’s door. They’ve got a whole host of things to consider about what they want.”
